Delete Your Account

We're sorry to see you go. Here's everything you need to know about deleting your FairFare account.

Important: This action is permanent

Deleting your account is irreversible. All your data, including expenses, groups, settlements, and activity history, will be permanently removed and cannot be recovered.

Method 1: Delete from the App

The quickest way to delete your account is directly through the FairFare app. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the FairFare app on your device.
  2. Navigate to Settings (tap your profile icon or the gear icon).
  3. Scroll down and tap "Delete Account".
  4. You will be asked to confirm your decision. Tap "Delete My Account" to proceed.
  5. Your account and all associated data will be scheduled for deletion.

Method 2: Request via Email

If you are unable to access the app or prefer to request deletion via email, you can contact us directly:

  1. Send an email to support@fairfare.in with the subject line "Account Deletion Request".
  2. Include the email address associated with your FairFare account in the body of the email.
  3. Our team will verify your identity and process your request within 7 business days.
  4. You will receive a confirmation email once your account has been deleted.

What Gets Deleted

When you delete your FairFare account, the following data will be permanently removed:

  • Your profile information (name, email, phone number, profile picture)
  • All expense records and transaction history you created
  • Groups and events you own (members will be notified)
  • Your membership in shared groups
  • Settlement history and debt records
  • Payment method preferences
  • Activity logs and notifications
  • App preferences and settings

What Happens to Shared Data

FairFare is a collaborative expense-splitting app, so some of your data is shared with other users in your groups. Here's how shared data is handled:

  • Groups you own: Other members will be notified. Group ownership will be transferred to the next active member, or the group will be archived if you are the only member.
  • Shared expenses: Expenses you added to shared groups will remain visible to other group members as "Deleted User" for record-keeping purposes, but your personal information will be removed.
  • Outstanding balances: We recommend settling all outstanding balances before deleting your account. Unsettled debts will be marked as void.

Deletion Timeline

  • In-app deletion: Your account will be deactivated immediately. Data deletion is completed within 30 days.
  • Email request: We will process your request within 7 business days. Data deletion is completed within 30 days of confirmation.
  • Grace period: During the 30-day deletion window, your account is deactivated but not yet permanently deleted. If you change your mind, contact us to cancel the deletion.

Data Retention

In accordance with applicable laws, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we may retain certain data for a limited period after account deletion:

  • Legal compliance: Transaction records may be retained for up to 5 years as required by Indian financial regulations.
  • Fraud prevention: Minimal data may be retained to prevent abuse and protect the security of other users.
  • Anonymized data: Aggregated, anonymized analytics data that cannot identify you may be retained for product improvement purposes.

Before You Delete

We recommend taking the following steps before deleting your account:

  1. Settle all outstanding balances with your group members.
  2. Download or note any expense records you want to keep.
  3. Notify your group members about your departure.
  4. Remove any linked payment methods from the app.

Active Subscriptions

Deleting your FairFare account does not automatically cancel your subscription. If you have an active subscription:

  • iOS: Cancel your subscription via Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions on your device before deleting your account.
  • Android: Cancel your subscription via Google Play Store > Subscriptions before deleting your account.

Failing to cancel your subscription separately may result in continued billing by Apple or Google.
